NCS-RC:

The Ministry of Environment has established the National Conservation Strategy Resource Center (NCS-RC) for developing phase two of the National Conservation Strategy (NCS), National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) and Environmental Data-Base. The NCS-RC also supports the Ministry of Environment in mass awareness and other information material on environment.

Objectives:

• To Prepare the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) as phase II of the National Conservation Strategy for Pakistan.
• To develop data base on environment for informed decision making.
• Facilitate research on cross-cutting issues of environment.
• Capacity building of the Ministry professionals for an enhanced knowledge base for meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
• Provide other support to the Ministry and other stakeholders.

Achievements:

1. In line with the PC-I provisions, a National Consultative Workshop on NCS implementation and data base was held in June 2006 at Islamabad, which was attended by stakeholders from all the provinces, AJK and Northern Areas. The workshop report is being printed for distribution.
2. Preparation for issuing a monthly on line news bullion on environment is under way.
3. The draft structure for NSDS has been prepared and work on preparing NSDS gudelines and report is in progress.
4. Framework for collecting data regarding environment and sustainable development indicators is being prepared.
5. Ministry is provided technical and other support by the NCS-RC.
